Welcome to the Annual Woodside Soapbox Derby!
What:
The Woodside Soapbox Derby is an annual event that teaches children valuable skills in building and auto engineering, and then brings the community together for a safe and fun race day where kids are the stars.
On race day kids will get multiple runs down the course, we'll have trophies for the racers, special awards for performance and design, and food and drinks available throughout the morning!
When:
The 2026 Woodside Soapbox Derby will take place Sunday May 3, 2026. Check-in starts at 8:15am. The race starts at 9am and goes until 11:30am, with the trophy presentation at 11:30am.
Leading up to the main event we'll host a number of community build days where cars can be assembled with guidance, and then customized to showcase each child's uniqueness.
Where:
The Woodside town center parking lot. And if you don't know where that is, well, it's behind the Pioneer!
Who:
Children ages 6-12 on day of the race.
How to register:
Please contact eric.boyle.w@gmail.com to register. The price for a new car kit is $500, and that includes registration. If you already have a car from past years or otherwise, simply register and the registration fee is $25 per racer. Each registration includes a t-shirt so please email your racer's shirt size.
Update: Please note that we no longer have new cars available to build this year. We will have more to build for the 2027 race next year. We will see what other cars we can find for families that need a car this year.
We are not taking credit card payment this year so that 100% of funds can go to the Woodside Soapbox Derby. We'll ask that you pay by check or by Zelle and can share details when you register.
Please register by April 12th in order to guarantee your child a t-shirt. Kids are welcome to register up to the day-of, but are not then guaranteed a t-shirt.
Build help days:
We will host build days at 3950 Sand Hill Rd, Woodside. If you purchase a car we will have it there to assemble. Please bring your own tools!

- Sunday April 19, 2026, 10am-4pm
- Wednesday April 29, 2026, 3:15-6:15pm (note: this window will work for finishing builds, but is not enough time to start from scratch)
Please allow yourself 2-3 hours to build a car.
Please note the cars do not come in kits that can be taken home. You'll want to attend a Build Day to build the car.
Miscellaneous:
There will be a food truck on site.
If you no longer have use for your derby car from years past, please consider donating it and we'll find a new racer who will love to make it their own.
If you'd like to have a car but cost is an issue, please send us a note and we'll be happy to help.
